State of Our Union.
It's strong.
Yes, has been awhile since we blasted new material at you but 2012 is the year. The pleasure of working in the golden age of technology has presented Art and I with a new approach to how we write songs, and the benefits are already paying off. In the past, when we've gone to record, it's been rather assembly line. I write the songs, we practice the songs, we record the songs. In some cases we recorded the songs as we learned them, making the first time we played 'em, the print to tape time. Sometimes that works well, like with Go Home and My House Fell Down. Sometimes it's a little regrettable, Dynamo and Meadow come to mind. I say regrettable because as we played those songs out live, they became more dynamic, tighter and quite frankly, better than when we recorded them.
Another bit, once you hit the studio, the eyes are on the clock because studios cost money. We are not a wealthy band. But as we approach our new album "Seattle", Art and I have worked more closely on the material than we have in the past. We don't have a clock to watch because we are doing demos here in my home. Art comes by once or twice a week, I/we have an agenda, mostly I...and he's ready to throw down. We get more done in a two hour session right now than ever before. Working together these past two months, we've pulled together 3.5 songs that find us at the top of our game. I say 3.5 because while the music is finished and good for the .5, I hate the vocal and lyrics I wrote so back to the drawing board for me...by the end of today I may be able to say 4 songs...tomorrow at the latest.
We haven't picked out any cover songs to do yet, and the way writing is going, I'm not sure we will. We've done a lot of covers in the past, they help us on itunes and the download sites so it seems rather obligatory moving forward. At least one. In this area, sometimes Art and I do not agree. One of us doesn't particularly care for Battle Flag, but we know it's a must play live tune. I won't say which one of us...but it's not me.
The new year finds us in good spirits and while we work to revamp our commercial website (my fault it went down), we hope this blogspot space will suffice for exclusive content you can't find on FB or anywhere else. We will release a new album this year, and we will play some shows. Promise.
Now I have to get back to some vocal overdubs. Peace people!
